Caribbean Star Snail*

The Imbricate Star Snail is the same species as the common Astraea tecta var. americanum found in the hobby, but are not the same variation. These snails live isolated lives rather than in colonies, and are double the size. These snails will consume film and hair algae on the glass and rocks in your aquarium. Their diameter is about the size of a quarter, and they are about an inch tall. They are substitutes for Trochus snails. Often covered in coralline algae, these snails will consume film, some cyano species, and some of the finer hair algae on the glass and rocks in your aquarium. They are hardier than their Astraeas tecta var americanum that is common in the hobby, but they need to be righted when introduced to the aquarium. The species is also known as Astraea imbricata
