The Skunk Cleaner Shrimp is a "cleaner" shrimp, but that refers to its role in the wild cleaning parasites from fish, rather that its role as an algae cleaner. They will eat leftover food and detritus, and pick at algae at times. They should be target fed to keep them healthy and behaved. If they go hungry, Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp may begin hunting snails and other invertebrates. This species is hermaphroditic and gets along well in groups with other Lysmata species, but does not get along with Coral Banded Shrimp or other Stenopus species.
